MORE THAN 25 YEARS OF TANGO IN LONDON
Rooted in tradition. Kept alive through dancing.
Since 2000, Mina and Giraldo have been teaching, performing and sharing Argentine Tango in London and beyond. For us, Tango is much more than learning steps. It is a living tradition — shaped by music, movement, connection and the people who have carried it from one generation to the next. We feel fortunate to have learned from some of the great dancers and teachers who have shaped Tango’s history, and proud to continue sharing that knowledge through Corrientes.
THE CORRIENTES JOURNEY
From a tradition rooted in Buenos Aires to a living Tango community in London.
For more than 25 years, Corrientes has grown alongside its dancers — a place to learn, practise, dance, listen to the music and share in the culture of Argentine Tango. The journey continues every time we meet on the dance floor.
A LIVING TANGO LEGACY
From Buenos Aires to London. From one generation of dancers to the next.
We believe dance has the power to change lives, but Argentine Tango is also a rich cultural legacy, shaped over generations through its music, traditions, codes, ways of moving and, above all, its unique way of connecting people. Mina and Giraldo were fortunate to experience this first-hand in Argentina in the late 1990s, learning under the wing of renowned milongueros whose dancing was rooted in the Golden Age of Tango of the 1940s, including Mingo and Esther Pugliese, Carlos Gavito, Puppy Costello, Raúl Bravo, and Carlos y Rosita Pérez. From them, they learned far more than steps and figures: they absorbed the feeling, musicality, connection and social understanding that give Argentine Tango its distinctive character. This experience became an essential part of their own Tango journey and continues to shape the way they dance, teach and share the tradition in London today.

Mina and Giraldo in the 90s
THE TANGO LINEAGE
A tradition received, lived and passed on.
Mina and Giraldo were fortunate to experience Tango in Argentina in the late 1990s, learning from renowned milongueros whose dancing was rooted in the Golden Age of Tango of the 1940s. Among them were Mingo and Esther Pugliese, Carlos Gavito, Puppy Costello, Raúl Bravo, and Carlos y Rosita Pérez. They subsequently trained intensively with many of the leading exponents of Tango’s rebirth, including Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Hermocida, Guillermina Quiroga, Roberto Reis, Graciela González, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Roberto Herrera, Natalia and Gabriel, Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa, among many others.
Many of these artists and teachers have, at different times, visited, taught and performed at Corrientes. This is an important part of what we pass on. Not simply steps or figures, but an understanding of Tango as a living cultural tradition — its music, its movement, its connection, its codes and its ever-evolving language.
*We learn from those who came before us. We dance in the present. And we pass the tradition forward.*
MINA & GIRALDO
Dancers. Choreographers. Teachers. Movement Specialists.
Mina and Giraldo work extensively as dancers and teachers, performing, touring and teaching at Tango schools and clubs in London and across the UK. Their professional experience spans Argentine Tango, choreography, performance, movement education and social dancing. But their approach to teaching is grounded in something very simple: the dancer comes first.
When you come to a Corrientes class, you will learn Argentine Tango — but you will also develop an understanding of posture, alignment, balance, coordination, fluidity, musicality and connection. Their wider movement training helps bring another dimension to this work, allowing dancers to understand not only what to do, but how and why the body moves.
MOVEMENT IS AT THE HEART OF OUR TEACHING
CONNECTION – MUSICALITY – EXPRESSION – AWARENESS
The better you understand your body, the more freely you can dance.
Giraldo’s background includes Argentine Tango, contemporary dance theatre, acting and Wing Chun, with its emphasis on sensitivity, balance, coordination and mental focus. Mina’s training includes the Feldenkrais Method®, Skinner Releasing Technique™, Pilates, choreography and Deep Listening®. These different disciplines inform their Tango teaching without replacing its Argentine roots.
A PROFESSIONAL TANGO LIFE
ON STAGE, ON SCREEN AND IN THE CLASSROOM
Mina and Giraldo have worked extensively as dancers, teachers, choreographers, coaches and consultants. Their professional work has included theatre, film and television, as well as educational and touring productions. They have worked with organisations including the BBC, Channel 4 and the Arts Council of England, and their performance credits include major UK theatre productions and international Tango work.
Mina has performed in the film Evita, created choreography for Channel 4 and directed nationally touring productions through artLAT.
Giraldo has performed with the English National Opera and starred in the West End and UK touring productions Midnight Tango and Tango Passions.
Their work with BBC Strictly Come Dancing has included Tango performance and coaching. But performance is only one part of their work. For more than 25 years, their greatest commitment has been to teaching and sharing the dance.
“Raw emotion and visceral quality… an all-too-rare opportunity to sample the delights of Tango as it should be performed… to say that their skill is extraordinary is an understatement.”
Choreography for Mina evolves through interdisciplinary collaboration—with musicians, writers, and visual artists—to shape a passionate performance experience and expand the language of tango.
