What is Pilates? Pilates is not a series of exercises, is a concept, and for us dancing people is the perfect complement. Those of us who love dancing ought to seek a holistic strength of our entire physical and mental well-being, to re-balance, release and re-connect. Perhaps this was the main reason dance and Pilates were joined from its genesis in the partnerships between Joseph Pilates with renowned dancers and choreographers such as George Balanchine and Martha Graham amongst many leading dance figures in the early 20th Century.

What do you get from it? With Pilates we search for our own personal best in any dance, sport or in our daily routine, it allows you to move with more ease in our daily life. No matter your age or physical shape Pilates works for everyone, and if you enjoying dancing then getting closer to your core is essential to allow the flow of movement and to enjoy a solid balance, which is fundamental for your body confidence and self-expression.

How does it work and what are the benefits?  Pilates consists of moving through a slow, sustained series of exercises using abdominal control and proper breathing. The quality of each posture is more important than the number of repetitions or how energetically you can move. Fluidity, balance and control are everything for a dancing aficionado or professional, without it you will be limited and can lead to frustration. However, everyone can find a point of equilibrium and beat the tendency to topple or shake during the execution of the dancing steps.
